I think most of us believe that retiring the A-10s is a bad deal. It's a workhorse at supporting ground troops and we haven't seen anything else that adequately fills that role.

Military Industrial Complex wins again. When and if we get into ground combat again, the troops will pay the price.

As much as Top Gun has been a recruitment tool, it hurts the CAS role. I never flew military as I did not have the vision but as a private pilot, low and slow is the best place to be for CAS. All the people that did make the cut for military aviation want to go super fast and be MAVERICK. I did not have the respect for a lot of planes and pilots until I had to nail my short field landings for my license and that is a skill that few USAF pilots ever care to visit again. In my humble opinion, the A10 and C130 take far more skill and receive far less glory for what they do.
