Good afternoon, Rallypoint, and welcome to the November 5th edition of Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD): Lunar Eclipse at the South Pole. This was the scene at the South Pole earlier this year (May 16th). We may not see an aurora this coming Tuesday morning (November 8th), but a total lunar eclipse is indeed on the menu. If you are up early in the morning (and are in North America), you'll be able to take it all in.
I expect on the East Coast (weather providing), this eclipse may be particularly spectacular. Totality begins around 6AM EST, which will be about an hour before the Moon sets. That means the Earth's atmosphere will help enlarge the Moon's disc, which should be a sight to see.
