Good morning, Rallypoint, and welcome to the November 2nd Hump Day edition of Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD): "A Partial Eclipse of an Active Sun." You might recall that there was a partial solar eclipse on October 25th (but if you weren't in Europe, you didn't see it). Whether it was by accident or not, today's video clip captures that eclipse while zooming in on an active solar prominence.
The video compresses ~10 minutes down to four seconds. I had to watch the clip a second time before my eye focused on the prominence (it appears draped above some invisible support as the Moon comes in from the right). It took a third viewing to appreciate the solar spicules clearly shown across the Sun's horizon. An impressive bit of videography here...it must have been equally fun to watch it as the eclipse progressed.
