Can't speak for all 13, but by far, oil is the predominant source of heating, accounting for over 80% of all households. Personally, we have heat pumps for primary heat and propane for back up. Of course about half of our electricity comes from Natural Gas, with maybe another 20-25 percent coming from coal or oil, so I'm screwed either way.

SSgt (Join to see) - My grandfather switched from coal to oil circa 71. That furnace was still running well when my mother sold the house in 2007. I was thinking about cheap natural gas. Propane works well but not as good.

What our friends in New England need to remember is we always get what we vote for.

I grew up in New England in the 80s and 90s and most people had oil heat. In the other places I’ve been people haven’t even heard of it.

SSG (Join to see) - I get that. Seattle moved from Oil to Natural Gas back in the 70s IIRC. Colorado was Natural Gas or Propane (up in the mountains especially). Florida is mainly electric as we only use it a few days to a few weeks each year.

New England gets mighty cold in the Winter. Lots of folks are needing heat.

The government shouldn't be getting involved in punishing industry for what it thinks is bad. If they want to live like it's the stone age... have at it. Leave the rest of us alone.
