There has been forward movement towards the dream of nuclear fusion power plants.
Clearly, we have seen little or no interest in replacing near antique nuclear fission plants built by the same company at the same time as Japan's Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant.
Is successful safe fusion close enough to successfully replace them with fusion plants?
There is talk, too, about the possibility of fusion engines in vehicles . . . perhaps any mode of transportation . . .
Understandable whether or not everything is understood. The possibility can probably still be considered theoretical physics . . .
"Type-I ELM plasma instabilities can melt the walls of fusion devices. A team of researchers from the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics (IPP) and the Vienna University of Technology (TU Wien) found a way to get them under control. Their work is published in the journal Physical Review Letters."
