We see this cycle and it mimics what I learned: Hard people make great times, great times make soft people, soft people make bad times, bad times makes hard people. The military seems to follow a similar cycle. We are at about the same point as we were in the 70s/80s. And this too will continue through the cycles...

Interesting perspective. I haven't thought of it this way, but it is true. It will take a significant challenge or conflict for the country to come together as a whole.

It's a sad situation for our country if we were to need good capable troops in case of an invasion shipmate CPO David R. D.

I agree, but I honestly don't believe the U.S.A. will be invaded. Mexico is not going to invade, not counting illegal immigrants, and Canada is still somewhat friendly. What other country has the means to conduct a large amphibious raid to our shores? I don't think any other country would be that "not smart".
I believe if a war was brought to U.S. soil, it would be via ballistic missiles, not troops.
Just my opinion though.

Obesity/out of shape can be fixed but mindset is a lot harder. And when I was in recruiting most who had criminal records I would not give waivers to.
