Lt Col Charlie Brown When my children were growing up we had dinner together every day of the week. It wasn't until they started having jobs that it went down. Even though my son still lives at home he might eat with us twice a week.

We did when my daughter was at home with us...now me and my wife usually fix dinner and eat on the back porch.

Many families don't do this, because of work and or other conflicts.

I agree with, "The overall fabric of unity and bonding has changed." I also believe it's an individual family choice. Once kids move out and move on, the dynamics change and it may not be possible to come together. I also understand that some kids are more actively engaged with school and community events these days, while others may be peacefully sitting at home playing on some kind of electronic device. I drive school bus so I see how often the various organizations are making trips in the evening and on Saturdays. We didn't have computers when I was a kid or teenager.

I also believe it needs to be a "family" matter. If family dinners are desired, then the parents need to be the driving force behind it. Also, there's nothing wrong with family time. If a family member has a basketball game, or football game, or some other kind of activity, maybe the family eats together at the activity, while supporting their family member. Adapt, Overcome, Improvise!
