I was a member of URW before I enlisted and USW after I was medically discharged. I've been an Industrial engineering tech since I was 20. Because of the Union sponsored retirement bene's I was able to retire at the age of 62 and I am as comfortable as someone that did 20+ years active and retired then went into management somewhere. How many folks do you know that were, or are, able to retire that early? Corporations are about profits to the investors and only do enough for the employees to keep them from quitting and finding other employment. It was the unions in the early 20th century that raised up the middle class. Just because this union has preauthorized a strike does not mean they're going to walk. It just lets the rank and file, and the companies, know that a strike is on the table. Another vote would be taken before anybody walked out. I would suggest that you lay in a few extra supplies though, as I did see another story that was saying the rail workers were on strike and the hoarders are going to be busy.
