Col. Hub Zemke told me in 1967 that one of the reasons he never made Brig. Gen. was that he stepped on Kepner's toes when Kepner was CG of VIII Fighter Cmd. and Hub was the top-rated CO of the 56th Ftr. Grp. in 1944. Their personality clash plagued Hub for the rest of his career.

Quite the varied career. From Marine to Air Force with Army in between. Why didn't I think of that?
