We need to think flexibility...and what can we do without advanced tech if we can't protect it.

Electronics can be hardened against EMP, but it really needs to be designed into the systems. I worked in the EM test community for eleven years verifying that systems met EM specifications. There are several layers that go into making a system EM hard.
