Services need clear guidance for granting tattoo waivers, report says: The military services now have some of the most liberal tattoo policies they’ve ever enacted, to include allowing neck, hand and ear tattoos in the Army, Navy and Space Force. But tattoo size and placement can still be a bar to enlisting or commissioning unless recruits can obtain a waiver.
MY SAY: This is similar to the story of the Camel's Nose. Once you let him put his nose in the tent, it is inevitable that his whole stinky body will be in it. Sailors and Marines have had tattoos since the beginning, so what? An anchor, "MOM," a sweetheart's name, almost obligatory. But large, colorful neck, lower arm and even facial tattoos apparently cross the line in some instances. You can't put this genie back in the bottle. Poor recruiting results have paved the road to hell for the military, and tattoos, gender confusion, homosexuality, etc., will not uncast the die. All bets are off at this point, and you can add pony tails and beards to the mix (how the hell does one seal a pro-mask with a pony tail and a beard (hopefully not on the same soldier)?). Solution: Recruit the person you want fighting for our lives on the battlefield, you know, the smart, strong, talented high school athlete, class president who is deferring college or couldn't get into a service academy for one reason or another. We want YOU! If you chase the high school dropout, druggie, tatted former convict you could probably predict how they might perform in combat. Stop it.
