Our backlog edition continues with this from August 16th: "A Meteor Wind over Tunisia." If you look up the term "Berber" you will see that the Greeks, Romans, and Byzantines all used similar words in reference to peoples that inhabited the area we call North Africa. So it makes sense (at least to me) to find a Berber village in Tunisia. But it also makes a superb setting for this two-night composite image of the Southern Delta Aquariids meteor shower this past July.
We are all indebted to those who bring us these images from "darker" (less anthropomorphic light sources) skies. Mouse over the image on the APOD page to see the highlighted details: meteors, the Milky Way, and the Andromeda Galaxy (M31). Well done!
