Prison is the appropriate place for a man who steals taxpayer money and healthcare workers time depriving others who need it of more timely help

Good...there is a guy on our base where I work who has a brand new Dodge Ram fully decked out texas edition truck who has a 100% military disbled tag on it which comes with a lot of state benefits. He uplls up tot he front door of the gym in the handicapped spot, gets out and goes in and squats hundreds of pounds, dead lifts in gym competitions, runs like a rabbit onthe treadmill and elliptical, and does cross fit training. Now I know not all wounds ar visible but if you are getting 100% disability from the VA and are that fit at least don't park your damn car in a handicapped spce just because you can. There are folks who are struggling to get in an out of their car and physically need that space. To me this guy is abusing the system.

I am that guy.... kinda.

I rate out to 100%, through a couple big ticket items which are "invisible" (sleep apnea, depression), and a metric shit-ton of smaller items which are visible, but only if you look really hard (10% for almost every major joint, compressed and degenerative disks, and a few others).

I walk mostly normally most of of time. A casual observation would find nothing wrong with me. I have good days and bad days. On good days, walking only hurts a little bit. If there is a reasonably distanced non-handicapped space, I'll take it. But if we are in "half a mile to the door" territory, I am taking that spot up front.

On bad days, every single step hurts. I am looking for a shopping cart in the parking lot, because I don't want to wait to get into the store to have something to lean on. But even on those days, I walk pretty normal, just a bit slower. On bad days, I am finding the closest spot, period.

Now, I am not heading to the gym to pump iron - I don't exercise at all (which I know is bad for my health, long term). But I am positive I have pissed people off taking that handicapped spot when there is nothing obviously wrong with me. I even had a Dollar General employee demand that I move my car, once. (Which I did not do; she ended up checking me out and I just smiled a big smile the entire time.)

I have said it before, but I will repeat it here. Yes, there are people who abuse the system. But before we assume that they are faking their injuries, we should consider that MAYBE they are "getting after it" DESPITE their injuries. We do not know what they are going through to make it happen. We do not know how much pain they are in. We do not know if they go home and can't move for a full day. We don't know if the difference between the close spot and the far spot makes a difference in 4 sets and 5, because the extra distance there and back takes too much out of them.

In your case, I old GUESS that is not the case, seeing as he is "running like a rabbit on the treadmill," but I am still guessing.

I try to be exceptionally slow to judge whenever I can. Because the longer I take to pass judgment, the more data I can collect. And the more data I collect, the more accurately I can judge.

SFC Casey O'Mally - I am tracking. But I have known this guy for a while and to see the way he works out...well, to me he is abusing the system and works in a very physically demanding job. AND he may be entitled to the 100% due to things other than the physical portion of it...very possible...but if you are physically fit as he is save the physical spots for the truly handicapped...IMHO.
