The Montagnard's were even looked down on by most of the Vietnamese population and I'm sure if She hadn't experienced that heard it from Her parents or others. They lived in a culture that wasn't understood by the general population of Vietnam and looked don upon as primitive savages. That may well have influenced what She had to say about Her heritage. Without individuals though that try to preserve some of that heritage and language it would disappear forever. which often is the result of hiding it rather than retaining the good things that made them Who they were and could become. That's not all that unusual for minority groups in any civilization and is another example of exactly that and why these cultures are lost and not remember unless people in that social group of people take steps to keep the memory and culture alive and not let it fade forever.

A shame she/they would even think of hiding their roots. They were proud people who fought well aside of us
