'FOR MANY, MANY YEARS', SCIENTISTS have been reaching out to the stars with radio waves to try and communicate with other life forms, humanoid or some other form... and we have never had a response in all those years... ( Check out SETI) - Why? It is fundamentally simple... and if we use the Alpha Centauri system as a basis it will become obvious... Radio waves, like light, travel at the speed of light, so if a strong radio wave was sent to the Alpha Centauri System, it would take 4.3 Light years to arrive and the same time period for it to be returned as a response... Accordingly as the distance increases, so does the transmission time for a two way radio signal.

All joking aside, I always wonder if the "WOW" signal was the last transmission of a dying race. Or was it a galactic prank by a race of Don Rickles types?

At some point, perhaps the "WOW" signal WAS the last transmission of a dying race." The reality is that a more intelligent species from somewhere in the universe (Perhaps even in our Milky Way Galaxy) would have developed a far more superior communication mechanism and just perhaps, what we are on the verge of doing may be a basic concept of what this species created. And if this is so, perhaps communications will be bridged in a way we can easily communicate with another species... Just postulating here..., but it may be plausible...
