No problem with training. Everyone should receive some sort of training for those not familiar how to use gun.

MAJ Byron Oyler can education is always a thing as long as the government isn't overseeing the training. The training will become more about political correctness and lose the primary reason for training.

SFC Jason Werstak - In TX I do not see required training as infringement but as protection. Too many people have used their firearm at the wrong time and seen significant legal troubles. Other states, absolutely it is a means to infringe.

MAJ Byron Oyler I agree with you. So many people buy a gun(s) but have no knowledge of when to use it or understand how the legal system. works. Basic gun safety is great but the liability one faces if used can be catastrophic.

I have espoused training a number of times on this site. The idea that you can just go out and buy a gun and use it without training is not wise.

I'm really not trying to pick a fight or be a smartass... but There are so very many things that we do that are not wise. Every year about 500 people die from negligent discharges. Every year about 1700 people die in their bathtub. Granted most of America is in their bathtub once a day. Most Americans probably don't handle a firearm once a week. What's the threshold where government must get involved. If we apply that to every activity, I fear we'd become perpetual students.

SGT Steve McFarland - in Wisconsin that is enough. Yesterday a 3 year old got hold of a pistol and killed himself. Mom is in trouble, as if being stupid, losing a child isn't enough

People that are against training are people that have never had a quality course. Back when TX required a class for CHL I took it and it was a great class. It did not teach how to shoot but was all about the laws of when you could and could not use your weapon in self defense. One of the biggest take homes for me was if you started an altercation you cannot use your weapon to end it. I do see NY using this as a back door to stop carry.
