APOD: 2022 June 24 - Filaprom on the Western Limb

Good Red Friday morning, Rallypoint, and welcome to the June 24th edition of Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD): "Filaprom on the Western Limb." A 'solar filament' is a stream of plasma suspended above the surface of the Sun by magnetic fields. A 'solar prominence' is also a stream of plasma, but is seen at the edge of the Sun's disc against the blackness of space. A 'filaprom' is both, and we see one here on the right of this image from Wednesday (June 22nd). To better gauge the size of the filaprom, a representation of the Earth is included in the upper right corner. Good that we are really 93 million miles away.

Brilliant shot and the first one I have seen where the sun is in the foreground and the earth in the background behind that giant orange. Thank you for this perspective and the size that stream of plasma is phenomenal.

Looks like an oversize emu pattern on the surface Maj William W. 'Bill' Price , is a super cool image sir.
