My first wife suffered from bipolar disorder with severe mood swings from deep depression to euphoria in a manner of minutes . She tried to kill me in four occasions , three times with a little .35 caliber Browning semi-automatic pistol I had given her when we were at Ft Bragg in 1967. I spent a lot of time in the field as a member of 3SFG(A) and the 2d Psyop Group and wanted her to have a weapon with which she might defend herself .
The fourth occasion was when she tried to disembowel me with a kitchen carving knife. Each time, I was able to defend myself and disarm her, thanks to the training I received at Ft Jackson SC.
