I'm sure that's what was in Stalin's mind when he kept pushing the other Allies to land in France. However, I believe we weren't ready in the summer of '43 and had the invasion failed then, it could have set the western Allies back for a couple of years.

Interesting read. I just saw a show on how Herr Schicklegruber was entranced by the island of Guernsey and made it a fortress, at the expense of Normandy. In his mind, the island was the key to defending "Fortess Europe". The Allies bypassed it without so much as a second thought.
