The Russian invasion of Ukraine has brought back memories of 30 November 1939 when
the Soviet Union Red Army crossed the Soviet-Finland border with 465,000 Red Army troops
and 1,000 combat aircraft in the invasion of Finland. The Soviet military believed Finland would
be a easy target and their small military would surrender without much resistance. The Soviet
military was surprised at the resistance Finland's small armed forces along with civilians brought
against the invading Red Army fighting the Soviet invasion to much of a halt on the ground.
This sounds like what is happening now with the Russian military invasion of Ukraine.
Peace negotiations with Moscow brought a end to the war in March 1940 but Finland did allow
the Soviets to keep some of Finland's territory captured near the border with the USSR.
