This is nothing new, they made many mistakes in TV shows in the '60s.

Maj Robert Thornton - I couldn’t watch it, too far from reality to have suspension of disbelief, but my Dad loved that show because it had Navy in it, and I was in the Navy.

Maj Robert Thornton - Watch old episodes of Combat. You'll see Allied vehicles with German markings. Obviously, there weren't a lot of real vehicles available as props, but they could have made them look more like the real thing.
I believe that in most cases, they think that 99% of viewers would have no clue about what they should look like. Many people complain about that series reusing the same sets for French villages but hey would have had to build at least 50 different fake towns if each was unique
Oddly. Hogan's Heros did a better job, and it was a comedy. The General's car was the real thing, and is now in a museum.

SPC Michael Terrell one thing that I found interesting was that the 4 prominent Germans in Hogan's Hetoes were Jewish. Kline, Schultz. Gen. Burkhalter, and Hochstetter.

Maj Robert Thornton - They only took the parts, on the condition that the series didn't put the German Army in a good light.

Of course we also need better self-styled experts calling out the errors. The article features a tweet by some Jerry Hendrix saying they should have two stars on Iceman's NDSM. But two stars on the NDSM would be THREE awards, which equals Vietnam + Gulf War + GWOT. The last date for the NDSM for Vietnam was 14 Aug 1974 which seems unlikely for "Iceman"

This echos something we see too often in the military -- before making an "on the spot" correction, first be sure you know what correct would be.

Lt Col Charlie Brown - They had a better budget than most movies or TV series. I liked that Carter's cover story was 'Deep Space Telemetry. I actually built equipment that could be used fr that work. :)
The sets had enough modern looking equipment, along with real lab grade test equipment to look realistic. I saw a lot of JP, Tektronix and other instruments, but it bugged me that white meter lights were replaced with blue for the visual effect. A bright blue scale would be quite annoying if you had to work in front of it, eight hours a day. The real thing were bad enough for me. For digital, I preferred the older red seven segment, but many go for high brightness blue or green these days.

It is always interesting to see how much Hollywood can screw up a uniform.
