The judge has the final say in sentencing. He or she does not have to abide 100% by sentencing guidelines. After a sentence is pronounced, it is reviewed by the US Sentencing Commission.

It wasn't an attack. And her sentencing was definitely outside the guidelines. I would have liked to hear why she thought that was appropriate.

Why are a judges decisions off limits for review ? The sentences were below guidelines and in at least one case below guidelines, prosecutors and parole board recommendations.

Kevin McCarthy at National Review has a breakdown of each of the cases, and didn’t find much untoward in the sentences:

At least 3 Trump appointed, Crawley supported judges have also sentenced below Federal guidelines on child porn cases. Those 3 judges...Judge Joseph Bianco, Judge Andrew Basher and Judge Carl Nichols. Crawley was either ignorant or being a typical disingenuous politician by trying to make points at the expense of those who are simply going to accept what he says. Nothing any politician of either party says should ever be accepted as fact without research to verify what they say. They are just like your Uncle who is full of puffed up stories. I have a friend who is a judge (R) and he says most judges sentence at least some cases below Federal guidelines
