APOD: 2022 March 15 - A Road to the Stars

Good afternoon, Rallypoint, and welcome to the Ides of March edition of the Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD): "A Road to the Stars." Airglow again dominates this image captured in 2019 on the road to the La Silla Observatory in Chilé, home to the European Southern Observatory's (ESO) 3.6 metre telescope. Mouse over the image on the APOD page and you will see the various highlights (from left to right): structures for the future BlackGEM telescope, Jupiter, the Milky Way, the 3.6 metre telescope, Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC), red airglow, and the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC).
