The moment Gorbachev gave autonomy to the Eastern Block to hold democratic elections leading to the end of the USSR and Yeltsin took further advantage of that, Soviet relics like Putin held a grudge. It's a damn shame the Russian people couldn't stop a narcistic Autocratic Oligarch like him from rising to power.
