Thanks. Do we really need to let these slackers off with just a tiny shove out the door? They have cost the line on responsible and honorable. Pay back what we invested in your education. IMHO, they don't deserve any respect, or the free ride to university-level education.

This news just really upsets me. I grew up in the Wilton Manors area. Years back I greaduated from Ft. Lauderdale HS; it is almost (maybe 2 miles) located within the Wilton Manors boundaries. At the beginning of my career, pre-army, I staffed at several of the local hospitals, like Holy Cross and Broward Medical Center. Of course times have changed and with that, neighborhoods are being swallowed into rentals, vacation places, and cheap apartments. I have great memories of WM being a quiet, safe little neighborhood. Sad to think that even that tiny speck of a township has succumbed to the scourge of opioid trafficking. Knowing that the hard-working EMS and paras who respond to these types of stupidity-driven tragedies just literally breaks my heart. These cadets have brought such shame and dishonor upon the Academy and certainly this community, with the end result now being criminal proceedings and tax payer funded prosecution. The nurse in me wants to say that at least some lives were saved, but the soldier in me demands to know, "Why?"
I'm never one to sugarcoat anything. Having said that, I hope to see these former rising stars diminished to dishonorably discharged persons who did not behave in keeping with the oaths they took upon entry into the academy. No VA benefits. No honorable or general discharge, an example needs to be made and it seems to me this is the perfect type of scenario to explore the consequences of criminal behavior. I firmly believe that full repayment of all monies lost by the Academy and others who were involved in this scandal should be demanded, nothing less should be accepted. Wilton Manors used to be a sweet little place, but now it's reputation is stained with the illegal actions of a few selected persons who are anything but officer material. They escaped with their lives, as far as we know. There should not be a career in the United States Army for these losers. IMHO.
