A long overdue presentation of the Medal of Honor for this soldier sacrificing His own life to save others. My salute to this brave man.

Thanks, Sister Charlie, for that inspiring story of incredible bravery in the face of certain death. I‘ve been privileged to know a man who did the same thing in Vietnam. Our division commander in the 1st Cav was MG John J (Jack) Tolson. When the Tet Offensive began on 29 January 1968, the North Vietnamese Army attacked the South Vietnamese Army units in and around the city of Hue’. As the battle raged over several days time,?it became apparent that they wouldn’t be dislodged easily. Artillery fire support couldn’t be effective because of the number of civilians who be directly in harm’s way. So MG Tolson with a volunteer crew flew his own helicopter directly into the city
and adjusted their fire on his own position. He made that trip four times, and on each flight he picked up casualties and brought them out too. He also received the DSC, but to my knowledge there has been no attempt to upgrade it.
Another recipient of the DSC was MG Earl Rudder who commanded the 2d Battalion 75 Infantry Regiment (Rangers) as a Lieutenant Colonel on D Day, 1944. He and his men scaled the cliffs at Pte du Hoc in Normandy to destroy Nazi artillery
defending that sector. Of the 800 men who began that climb, fewer than 400 reached the summit. Earl Rudder also received the DSC.

Solid addition to the post. Men like these should be the tales of service and accomplishment that children are taught in our country. It'd be a better world.
