In memory of Sidney Poitier...one of the all time great actors and a key figure in Hollywood
He has been dubbed "Hollywood's first African-American film star" by some cinema historians and journalists. Poitier "opened the path for Black actors in film," according to the New York Times, who wrote about him shortly after his death. "Poitier was the first actor to star in mainstream Hollywood movies that showed a Black man in a non-stereotypical form," according to the Hollywood Reporter, "and his influence, especially as a role model and image-maker throughout the 1950s and '60s was immense."
