Thank you my friend and brother-in-Christ Capt Christian D. Orr for introducing me to LTC Rick Bogdan's [thinly-veiled autobiography] Grunts, Gramps & Tanks: A Soldier's Tales
I am glad to learn that he is one of your University of Southern California Trojans alumni.
I decided to post part of your review from your link {[https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/ [login to see] ?book_show_action=false&from_review_page=1]}
"snapshot of life in the Army as: (1) a junior enlisted infantryman during the “lost years” (if you will) of the post-Vietnam drawdown under the Gerald Ford Administration; (2) a lieutenant/platoon commander of armour during the Carter Administration (including a cameo by President Jimmuh himself, albeit from a distance); and (3) a captain/company commander of armour during the Ronald Reagan’s first term.
It also gives fascinating insight into a time when the U.S. Army was still using the M-60 Patton instead of the M-1 Abrams as its main battle tank (MBT).
I find the protagonist, PFC/LT/CPT Tyler Willett highly relatable, even though he and I were in two different branches of the service (I was Air Force) and during two different timeframes (I served from 1999-2006): (1) Tyler and I were both “mustangs” who chose to start off in our mid-20s as enlisted men with our bachelors degrees in hand instead of applying directly for Officer Candidate School (OCS; we Air Force pukes gotta be different and call it Officer Training School [OTS] instead; and (2) like Tyler, I can relate to the professional heartbreak of being non-selected for OCS/OTS on the first try, and the joy of finally being selected on the second attempt.
