Police try bait packages to nab "porch pirates"

Glitter bomb guy has been doing this for years. Cops are really quick on the uptake. One of my kids father in laws lives in the country. He saw a guy actually following a fed ex truck. He heard the Fed ex truck leave and walked around the corner of his house to get the package and there ways one of the turds 1/2 down his drive way. When the fellow saw him he ran back to his car and took off. No sympathy for poach pirates.

My OPINION:
For those with 4A concerns: Go fly a kite.

I am a strong believer and advocate of 4A. In my opinion, there is no real concern for that here. It is a passive tracker which the criminal CHOOSES to pick up. Police are not targeting anyone. If no one actively commits the crime, then the tracker does nothing. This is different, in my opinion, from a wire tap, where the police are specifically looking for conversations by specific people - and where innocent people may be recorded - or where people who are innocent of the crime being targeted may inadvertently admit to other crimes.

But that is my opinion, and in this I admit that there is VERY likely nuance and case law of which I am unfamiliar that may render my opinion moot, obsolete, or just plain wrong.

But, honestly, kudos to the cops for this solve.

We did something similar when thieves were breaking into vehicles in pkg garages to steal electronics. We would have a dash mounted CB radio in plain sight of a closed bed pickup with one of us in the back (we didn't have access to tracking technology). The ploy worked quite well and yes, we did get hit with charges of "entrapment" by defense attorneys as well as questioned about whether we put higher priced CB's in in order to "up the charge". We did not lose any of those cases on those grounds. Had some interesting moments when thieves tried to break into the back :)
