An amazing feat... I hope I live long enough to see one of these new Sub just contracted to be built...

I've been aboard her. Every year our family went to the open house at the New London CT sub base. One year they had the Nautilus and a WWII sub berthed side by side so that we could tour and see the differences. My takeaway as an elementary school kid was space and a lot of places on the Nautilus that were closed off.

The USS Nautilus is on display and open to visitors at the Submarine Museum which is located just outside gate to the Navy Submarine Base in Groton, CT on the Thames River. The museum which is run by the US Navy is very good and well worth visiting. Shown here is the USS Nautilus at its mooring just outside the Navel Submarine Museum and Library. Access it easy and well marked from off Interstate Route 95 in Groton, CT. The opposite side Thames river from the submarine base is the US Coast Guard Academy in New London, CT.
