Kennedy and Nixon square off in first televised presidential debate

Even then you can see a carefully crafted persona that the media enjoys so much. The dashing, charismatic war hero versus the stodgy, older, less desirable candidate. I have watched portions of the televised record and am struck how the media used lighting and camera angles to give a bright view of Mr. Kennedy while there was subtle shadowing around Mr. Nixon. The same sort of sgading occurs with each soundbite that a person speaks in an interview.

That was back when they had fairly civil debates lol...
