Good Monday morning to All my Brothers & Sisters, wherever you are on our big blue marble in our solar system... More to follow...

Today is: “Empathy Day!” Why Not?

"Empathy is about standing in someone else's shoes, feeling with his or her heart, seeing with his or her eyes. Not only is empathy hard to outsource and automate, but it makes the world a better place." - Daniel H. Pink

"When you show deep empathy toward others, their defensive energy goes down, and positive energy replaces it. That's when you can get more creative in solving problems." - Stephen Covey

"Whenever you feel like criticizing any one...just remember that all the people in this world haven't had the advantages that you've had." - F. Scott Fitzgerald

"A prerequisite to empathy is simply paying attention to the person in pain." - Daniel Goleman

"Empathy is really the opposite of spiritual meanness. It's the capacity to understand that every war is both won and lost. And that someone else's pain is as meaningful as your own." - Barbara Kingsolver

"Empathy is the only human superpower - it can shrink distance, cut through social and power hierarchies, transcend differences, and provoke political and social change." - Elizabeth Thomas

"When I get ready to talk to people, I spend two thirds of the time thinking what they want to hear and one third thinking about what I want to say." - Abraham Lincoln

It is important to understand that...

“Having empathy as a leader will allow you to create trust. It’s important for a leader to understand the feelings and thinking of team members. It’s good to put on someone else’s shoes to really understand what is happening around you. It sharpens your perceptions and intuition for informed decision-making.” — COL (Ret) Mikel Burroughs

I expect your sympathy and empathy are genuine and worthy of emulation. No doubt you care about those you lead and are those you responsible for. Hopefully you and I are spiritually mature enough to serve those in need that we interact with and that we demonstrate our love by showing empathy appropriately. 'Rejoice with those who rejoice; weep with those who weep. Live in harmony with one another.’ [Romans 12:15 ESV] my brother-in-Christ Sgt (Join to see).

I pray for compassion good listening skills, and discernment and sufficient fruit of the Holy Spirit goodness, humility, and gentleness for each and every one of YOUR adopted sons and daughters who reads or listens to this prayer. LORD, I thank you for renewing the mind of each of us as YOU transform the soul of each of us into a perfect reflection of YOUR image through YOUR sanctification of each of us. YOU cause the soul of each of us to shine abundantly as our maturing soul increasingly reflects YOUR image. 'Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the best use of the time. Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.' [Colossians 4:5-6 ESV]
It is wise to seek wisdom from the LORD. HE bounds our walk-through in life and HE blesses us with ideas to bring positive change for many. 'And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect. For through the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think more highly of himself than he ought to think; but to think so as to have sound judgment, as God has allotted to each a measure of faith.' Romans 12:2-3 ESV
LORD, as a prayer warrior, I stand in the gap for I lift the US citizens still left behind in Afghanistan, the Afghani Christians, the Afghani translators and others who assisted the allies along with their family members to YOU LORD. I pray that the vast majority will be able to leave Afghanistan and relocate safely in USA, UK, Canada or elsewhere. ‘Give justice to the weak and the fatherless; maintain the right of the afflicted and the destitute. Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked.” [Psalm 83:3-4 ESV]
I pray that you and those you love are healthy and that you each sleep well Monday night and awake refreshed Tuesday morning.
By the power and authority of the Name above all names, Jesus the Christ.

Good morning. I admit that there are too many times I should have used empathy rather than emphasis to settle an argument. Empathy is a select gift that can be developed but can, for some of us, require much work to understand and utilize. Thank you for a thought provoking "idea of the day".

The whole time I was a sergeant I'd try to spend a moment each day putting myself in the troop's shoes and looking at what is going on from their perspective. Those kids aren't dumb and their perceptions of what is happening has a tremendous amount to do with the tone and morale climate of the unit. Any leader ignores those perceptions at their peril, unless you're Stalin or Hitler or some other socialist intending to rule by fear and intimidation alone.
