After India’s devastating second Covid wave, the country is now grappling with tens of thousands of cases of a rare fungal infection called mucormycosis. The disease has been declared an epidemic in the nation. Thousands have died of it. Doctors say Covid, and the treatment being given for it, has led to this surge. From a public hospital in Pune, one of the worst affected districts, the BBC’s Yogita Limaye reports.

As a side effect of Covid-19, India was struck by the rare mucormycosis or the Fungi Epidemic. There are at least two known variants of this rare mucormycosis, which are names Black Fungus and White Fungus. A medical specialist claimed a third, the Pink Fungus; however, this claim is unverified. The Black and White fungi affects the eyes, kidneys and the brain in line with Covid-19 that affects throat, lungs and the brain. The second wave was deadly here in India; metropolises were the worst affected.

My goodness I'm agreeing with LTC Charlie Brown. Then again you don't treat a viral infection with antibiotics

They caused this by treating COVID with antibiotics. Wrong thing to do. It destroyed the good bacteria that keep fungal infections at bay
