In my opinion, the stimulation would be detrimental in the long term. The brain produces adenosine throughout the day which has been linked to the fatigue you feel at the end of the day during normal circadian patterns. Sleeping allows the brain time to drain the adenosine, giving the mind/body a refreshed feeling when waking up. Artificially, altering the feeling of fatigue doesn't give the brain time to release the adenosine. What affect would that have on a person over time?
