You would be appalled at a lot of the legislation here in Florida. Much is disheartening. The latest attacks on teacher unions is appalling. Remarkably, they do not attack the fire and police unions, but it's open season on teachers. That is one reason I'll be retiring at 62 with 25 years in.

SGT (Join to see) When the teacher’s unions appear to have the student’s interests at heart, I will support them.
Retiring at age 62 sounds great! I got gone at 55 with chest pains which vanished soon after. One son trumped me by not renewing his ‘license’ at age 54.
There is a huge world to explore and enjoy, quickly! The other son’s wife was just diagnosed with a disease that is aka as the suicide disease.
Do it NOW and enjoy! Caregiving can soon present itself and can be a trial! LTC Stephen C. LTC (Join to see) LTC Stephen F. SFC William Farrell SGT Philip Roncari

CSM Charles Hayden - I feel the stress my friend. I really love teaching, but the bureaucracy is ridiculous. The government wants to put the onus for student learning almost solely on the teacher. Home life, parenting, and culture never enter the picture. I could improve student learning by getting rid of cell phones in school.
Cell phones were banned in school by state law about twenty years ago. So a few students and parents did a presentation in front of the Florida legislature espousing all the benefits of cellphone technology in the classroom. What was the result? I have students who are more focused on gaming, YouTube videos, and listening to music. The disrespect shown when they are asked to turn it off is depressing. I need my phone is the pushback I get. Since when is a phone a necessity? I blame the parents. I have seen toddlers sitting in grocery carts playing on a thousand dollar iPhone. Students always tell me they need their cellphone on in case their parents need to get in touch with them. I tell them have your parents call the school. The trophy generation has to have immediate contact with their children. I have students who have expensive iPhones without ever having to work for them. Again, the trophy generation rewards their children without their children earning anything.
I have seen the changes in the last 15-20 years. No Child Left Behind was the beginning of the problem. We started focusing on the lowest quartile almost to the exclusion of the others. School grades almost entirely rewarded gains in the lowest group. I had a good friend who passed away a while ago who played football at FSU and coached Wes Chandler in high school. He made a great statement about this. He said it was like focusing on playing the third and fourth stringers in practice all week, and then starting the the first team on Friday nights. Nobody was benefiting by that kind of philosophy.
Sorry for the rant.

SGT (Join to see) Hearing your rant makes me glad to be 32 years retired from supervising mechanical maintenance with the City of Los Angeles. I did not have a pager and my weekend hideaway in Palm Springs did not have a telephone!

Meanwhile, FOX Entertainment, did I mention ENTERTAINMENT?, continues to spew lies.

Meanwhile, allegations are being made against DeSantis for charging "campaign donations" to get virus shots. Just like Donnie would of.
