Beautiful. The story goes that Handel wrote this to get back in the good graces of King George I. Handel was music master in the court of the Elector of Hanover, and incurred the Elector's wrath when he moved to London to take the same position in Queen Anne's court. Then, Queen Anne died and the Elector of Hanover, a relative of the Royal family, was invited to become King George I, putting Handel in a quite awkward position. Handel, however, landed in his feet due perhaps in part to this lovely music which is also known today as the Water Music, named so because the royal fireworks were shot over the River Thames to avoid burning London yet again.
