Lt Col Charlie Brown - This is something I never had to worry about as I was a single guy at the time with no attachments... I can imagine, though, the difficulty and the emotional issues that are involved when a couple is separated during a deployment... Of course financial issues, children, and a whole host of other issues play a big role... None of which are easy to deal with...

Sgt (Join to see) - Neely is the only person that I'm still in contact with, more than 46 years later. My birthday was two weeks before my discharge. He more than repaid the favors. He handed me a package and said, "I've watched you completely rebuild this TV station with nothing more than a pocket knife and a pair of pliers, but you're going home with some real tools." The package was an Xcelite 99SM tool set. A very nice and expensive electronics tool kit, in a roll pouch. I still have it, less a couple tools that wore out from daily use, for decades. The current version is $282 from Jensen Tools. It was over $50, back in the mid '70s. I was thrilled with the thoughtful gift, but I wasn't expecting anything more than a smile the next time that I saw him, after each holiday. You do nice things, for friends without expecting anything in return.

I don't know if that was going on in the early 70's, I know I was told none of this when I headed overseas. I like you was single and on to the next great adventure.

Married with three kids, and there was nothing like this available that I knew of, sure would've been a big help though.
