The Colonel’s Motivational/Inspirational Quotes & Message of the Day and Week!
Grow...something we should all strive to do for as long as we can. Part of that depends on your attitude; you CAN learn, change and grow from every experience but only if you are open to doing so. There was a time when we believed that PTSD was something that never changed; it was a static diagnosis you had to live with forever. Now we talk about Post Traumatic Growth, the ability to make meaning from what we've experienced even the traumatic parts of our experiences. However, our experiences don't have to be traumatic for us to learn and grow from them; with an open mind we can learn and grow from everything and everyone in our lives.
And to speak to Col Burroughs' point about leadership: Just because you are in that position doesn't mean you know everything. Be open minded and do your best to learn from everyone and grow in your abilities. More will be asked of you as you gain experience but you can only meet the need if you are willing to grow.

“Grow can mean many different things for different people. Grow can mean you seek out a better you. You want to grow and change to know there you have more capabilities. You know there is a better you ahead of you. What steps will you take to grow? That reminds me of this quote…
‘Grow through what you go through.’ — Unknown Author
May you always find new ways to grow in life and remind yourself that…
‘I am where I am today because of the choices I have made. I am not where I want to be because of the choices I have not made. I would not be trying to grow if I was content with where I am.’ — Unknown Author
May your mind, body, and soul be opened to grace, goodness, peace, forgiveness, and a continued bountiful life of purpose; and keep your family safe, secure, happy, and healthy. Always leave some room to grow — why not?” — COL (ret) Mikel Burorughs

Thank YOU, LORD for rain, sunshine, budding blossoms, pollination of flowers, flowing streams, meadows and urban parks. YOU bless the creation with common grace and special grace for YOUR own adopted sons and daughters. I pray that each of us are thankful for all you do including the challenges and testing YOU enable us to go through to mature us and strengthen our character. ‘we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.’ [Romans 5:3b-5 ESV]
I lift infants, toddlers, their parents, grandparents, and guardians to YOU dear LORD. YOU ordained the family to care for, train up, and to protect the young as they grow into maturity. By YOUR grace infants and toddlers learn how to act and respond by watching and listening. ‘Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old, he will not depart from it.’ [Proverbs 22:6 ESV] Masked faces can scare the young and they can inhibit learning about how to recognize emotional gestures. I pray that those who are raising the youngest, take off their masks at home and do their best to use facial expressions appropriately so the infants/toddlers can easily see and learn. ‘A glad heart makes a cheerful face, but by sorrow of heart the spirit is crushed. The heart of him who has understanding seeks knowledge, but the mouths of fools feed on folly.’ [Proverbs 15:13-14 ESV]
I pray for kindness, attentiveness, great listening skills, and great hearing for each of YOUR adopted sons and daughters who are caregivers for infants and toddlers; disabled children and adults. Thank YOU, LORD for ears to hear. I pray that YOU open our ears to listen carefully. ‘Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; if service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his teaching; the one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads, with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness.’ [Romans 12:6-8 ESV]
I pray that YOU pour out a large and enduring measure of enduring love to each widow, widower, prisoner, severely disabled individual, as well as those suffering from PTSD and other mental issues. 'When the righteous cry for help, the LORD hears and delivers them out of all their troubles. The LORD is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.’ [Psalm 34:17-18 ESV]
I pray that you and your family members sleep well Friday night and will awake refreshed and healthy on Saturday morning.
By the power and authority of the Name above all names, Jesus the Christ.

HOW TO GROW IN CHRIST: WHAT IT MEANS, AND PRACTICAL STEPS
God wants to empower you through the Holy Spirit to live a Christ-directed life. As you continue to breathe spiritually (confess your sin and claim the fullness of the Spirit), you will experience a deepening fellowship with God which will lead to growth in Christ
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO GROW IN CHRIST?
It means to increase in your knowledge of Christ and become more constant in your love for him and your obedience to him.
Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, Whom you have sent (John 17:3).
Next in this series: How To Know I'm Really Saved
HOW CAN I GROW IN CHRIST?
Spiritual growth results from trusting that Jesus is living in and through you. The righteous will live by faith (Galatians 3:11). A life of faith will enable you to trust God increasingly with every detail of your life and to practice the following:
Go to God in prayer daily.
If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you(John 15:7).
Read God’s Word daily.
Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true (Acts 17:11).
Begin with the Gospel of John.
Obey God moment by moment.
Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me. He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love him and show myself to him (John 14:21).
Witness for Christ by your life and words.
Anyone who breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven (Matthew 4:19). This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples (John 15:8).
Trust God for every detail of your life.
Cast all your anxiety on him [God] because he cares for you (1 Peter 5:7).
Trust the Holy Spirit to direct you and empower your daily life and witness.
So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want (Galatians 5:16-17).
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth (Acts 1:8).
COMMUNICATION IS VITAL
Communication is vital to any relationship, including your relationship with Christ. Investing in these four types of communication will help you grow in your relationship with Christ as you live in the power of the Holy Spirit.
God communicates with us through the Bible, revealing His character and His will.
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work (2 Timothy 3:16-17).
We communicate with God through prayer—sharing our needs and our desire to do his will.
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hears and your minds in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:6-7).
This is the assurance we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us — whatever we ask — we know that we have what we asked of him (1 John 5:14-15).
We communicate with Christians to encourage one another in our faith.
And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another — and all the more as you see the Day approaching (Hebrews 10:24-25).

We communicate with non-Christians to help them discover what a relationship with Christ is like.
Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to me by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12).
Read [1 Corinthians 3:6-7]. God is the source of your growth. You cannot become spiritually mature by trying really hard to do so without him. As you walk in the power of the Holy Spirit, read the Bible, pray, tell people about Christ, and spend time with other believers, God will be at work in you, producing fruitfulness and maturity.

This is only the beginning of your Christian life. There is much more to understand than just these four lessons. The Church is God’s appointed place for Christians to learn and grow. Take the initiative today to find a Bible-teaching church in your neighbourhood and make plans to attend regularly.
