The Southern Dialect of the English Language, spoken primarily in the South Eastern US, is More about function than form. Case in point; Mississippi, Proper form is to pronounce it using 4 syllables. A Southerner knows that the same concept can be identified with only 2 syllables: Mizip, thereby eliminating unnecessary and wasteful facial muscle and oxygen usage. The link provided is by no means an all inclusive list, so, if those of You that are more about the form, than function have questions, there are many other members that would be inclined to assist You in Your understanding, and "Bless Your Heart" in the process.
