I ate those damned things three times a day for 35 days when we deployed to Bosnia, first battalion down there. That was enough for me. Then a couple of weeks of T rats (which IMHO are worse) before we got a real dining facility c/o Brown and Root.

B&R must have subbed it out for us in SA. We heard the US was paying $10/meal for it Some stew over rice, but with a nasty form of mystery meat in it. Roadkill is all I could think of. Only bad hot meal in the field ever. Might have been Halliburton. It would gag a maggot.

T rats are the pits. We had a pallet of chicken cacciatore. I shouldn't complain. Some people have nothing. Still, none of us were looking forward to chow after a while.

I've never eaten them, way after my time, did get c ration once or twice, AF eat in the mess hall
