Many of those so-called "indentured servants" had no choice in the matter. British jails emptied their cells by sending folks to America. Same for many Scots/Irish who were forced of the clan lands. 1615 Uprising in Scotland- 200 prisoners were traded in Barbados for 20 tons of sugar. Life expectancy for white workers was 6 months. British regiments rotated every 6 months due to almost 50% losses due to disease.

I don't doubt that we all agree that slavery is and always was bad. Owning people is wrong. Unfortunately this is a rather modern notion as people have been exploited by each other all throughout human history. So its not shocking to me that slavery existed during the time period discussed above. It continues today, just not as overtly and certainly not just here. Can anybody tell me exactly who in the African nations sold slaves of African origin to European traders?

Often it wasn't people of their own tribe they sold but a rival group that they may even have been at war with them. They often even helped the slave traders round them up and not only got rid of rivals but sometimes even got items they wanted from the slave traders. Without that help it would have been far more difficult kidnapping people from their own nation and carrying on the slave trade. There was certainly never anything good or proper about that.

SMSgt Lawrence McCarter Bingo! Let's give credit where credit is due. This aspect of the story was never, ever mentioned by my public school teachers.

SSG Paul Headlee - Somehow I'm not surprised by that despite the fact that is part of the History of the slave trade. Without help I doubt the Slave traders could have entered another nation and kidnapped and removed all those people on their own.
