Military leaders have a duty to speak up when they hear and/or see another person puttng down others of another race or because they are a woman. How? Just say, "I don't like what you just said to him or her." If the odds are you may cause violent response from the idiot, do not stand and wait for a reply just keep walking no matter what rank this person is. Do not use the word "WHY..." As in why did you same such a thing to him/her" Do not use the word YOU. "Don't YOU know better than...? If the subordinate using such words in a meeting or in a group of other people you supervise, wait until sometime period of time after the meeting and go tell the person that you DID NOT LIKE what he/she said in the meeting and as you are the boss, tell the person, YOU ARE EXPECTED NOT TO SAYING WORDS LIKE THAT. And end the conversation. If you get any back-talk repeat and repeat and repeat. YOU ARE EXPECTED NOT TO ... In other words, do not get into a pissing contest with the subordinate.
