Poll: Republicans Side with President Trump over Mitch McConnell

Forget McConnell. The article shows that the traditional Republican Party is leaking adherents into a growing new segment of voices identified as the “Trump Supporters.” Of important consideration: Will a new political party emerge in the future? If so, chances are they will be resilient and stubbornly defensive of their values just as the President is and furthermore, they will probably not go away just as Donald Trump will be a political force in some measure in the future.

The latest Axios-Ipsos poll published 1/13/21 indicates where “traditional Republicans” and “Trump Supporters” are at concerning their support of President Trump:

The poll showed that 91 percent of those who identified as Trump supporters supported his continued contesting of the election. Of those who identified as “traditional” Republicans, 46 percent supported it, with 36 opposed. An even higher percentage of Trump supporters — 96 percent — said Trump makes the Republican party better, and a slim majority of traditional Republicans — 51 percent — agreed. Ninety-two percent of Trump supporters want to see Trump run in 2024, while 41 percent of traditional Republicans agreed.
