Mr. Rowe is correct. A person needs to be responsible for his/her actions. But as far as debt repayment of college loans wouldn't it be smarter to simply reduce the interest one pays on that debt? Seems like that way a person is responsible in paying off the incurred debt without the crushing pressure of an ever growing interest debt.

Some sour grapes whining on my part, bear with me. My daughter qualified for some very prestigious universities. We sat down, crunched the numbers, and made financially sound decisions.
Other people didn't crunch the numbers and chose to live outside their means. Now I have to foot the bill even if we just excuse the interest. But They get to go into a job interview with a more prestigious sheepskin than her, and nothing to hang around their neck that let's people know they don't pay their debts.
Harsh on my part, Yup! And I'm not apologetic about it.

Maj John Bell I fully understand sir. That diploma is a key to a better start in a chosen career but at the same time incurs a debt that has to paid...by someone.

This is just wrong! However, I learned something from the University of Montana, which is where I am currently enrolled; anyone over the age of 65 can get a "Senior Citizen Tuition Waiver". I applied last week.

We have similar programs here. Attend college courses at minimal cost if you are a senior citizen. Ours don't give college credit although you get to be in the class and participate.

Of course it is not fair, why not credit cards, mortgages or car payments. Not everyone goes to college that is burden by debt.
