Destruction of Libraries (a university actually) is perhaps as bad or worse in some ways than a scorched earth policy. The Library at Alexandria was destroyed several times too. It's no wonder people are driven to disperse valuable knowledge so that it becomes common knowledge to be built on and improved, over time.
