The Marine Corps Is Considering Merging All Infantry Jobs Into Just 1 MOS

It worked out well for me. I was a Charlie and still got to operate as infantry in various domains. For example, my first assignment I was assigned to a CAR woth 4-1 AD. I drove the old mortar variant M113s. Then I was reassigned to 1-1 AD where I was in a Stryker BDE. Fundamentals of my MOS remained the same, just the platform that got me to where I needed to be and emplacement changed. My final assignment as an 11C was in the 173rd ABCT so I learned the light infantry and airborne side of infantry. Wouldn't have had those opportunities if they kept 11Ms around.

Also, having essentially 2 11 series MOSs (not including 11Z), made it easier to cross train 11Bs and 11Cs. Despite the infantry brotherly jokes, Charlies, if in the right unit, does almost everything Bravos do. The only weapon systems 11Bs use that I haven't was a Javelin. I was also able to teach some 11Bs more about mortar systems than just hanging rounds.

Makes sense. I'm not a Marine so I cannot speak from experience with them, but being prior Army infantry, I think the idea of merging can be well for the Marines, if they condense down to a few MOSs
