S Korea has a population of 51 million but has only 500 COVID deaths. The US has 230,000 COVID deaths. Why the disparity? S Korea planned early and pursued massive testing in February and conducted contact tracing. What did the US do? Trump lied about the pandemic in February and March. We had no plan. The US started to plan in late March.
Many Trumpers don't understand that the captain of a ship is responsible for the ship. The POTUS should provide sound leadership. Many Trumpers will deny the right of the federal government to provide assistance to states. That is just silly. After Hurricane Katrina the Coast Guard rescued 30,000 people. The federal government gave out $2 trillion to support the country recently. The federal government also ordered tests and PPEs. The Army Corps of Engineers looked at 600 potential sites for field hospitals. The navy has two hospital ships waiting for possible use. ARNORTH provides a combatant commander to continuously apprise the pandemic in order to use DOD assets support pandemic relief efforts. Some of you will say that it is the states' responsibility in state of emergencies. Louisiana was incapable of addressing the needs of New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. Should we have allowed New Orleans to languish because it is the state's responsibility? If states need funding from FEMA, should we deny them funds because it is the states' responsibility? You don't understand what happens when first responders and states are overwhelmed. Some of you believe in this silly nonsense.
