COL Mikel J. Burroughs Hello friend. God answers prayers and sometimes he tests our faith by calming others down, my gf had a crisis and told her to relax. I was very calm and calmed her down. And this morning a solution happened. Our training taught us to remain strong.

Good morning Col Burroughs. I am conducting a long training session today and hoping for a "breakthrough" with some of the participants.
One needs to change their belief or position (or be open to doing so) in order to be able to breakthough. That's why political views, prejudices, mental health issues can be so hard to challenge. If the person doesn't see value in the change, it is almost impossible to make it happen. Counselors use a technique called "motivational interviewing" to see if someone is open to really hearing about a new idea or if they are there simply to argue with you. If it is the latter, I just listen instead of offering suggestions which will be rejected anyway. Breakthroughs take time, patience and most of all, trust.
