I would be the first to agree that not all racism or discrimination was rooted out of the Army in the 1980's when I served and some of it was really evident though it was also evident the Army was trying and those people that had issues with race had their days numbered. I can't speak for how it is today as I left in 1987. The General would know better than me at this point. Outside of the Army and here in North Texas I still see folks using racial code words and making choices that show they still have issues with accepting all races. I remember this one girl I used to carpool with........every time she saw a black person on the street we were driving by.........she would hit the damn power locks (this was back before they were automatic). I finally could not stand it anymore and told her to knock it off and I could tell she wasn't doing it out of fear of my driving......which pizzed her off I guess. Anyhow, civilian side still has issues in the area of race acceptance.

I think this is always an issue. Must move forward and continue to stay relevant.
