Trial by Fire: The Disaster on USS Forrestal at 50

On July 29, 1967, a fire aboard the aircraft carrier USS Forrestal in the Gulf of Tonkin killed 134 sailors. This video shows the Navy's TV crew which caught the actual event. It is well worth watching.

Lt Col John (Jack) Christensen - I had an Uncle that was with the 1st Cav Air Mobile over there when I got there. The upside to being on a ship over there, was that once we got relieved we had around 10 days before we had to relieve another ship, so we went into places such as Hong Kong, Bangkok, Kaoshiung, Taiwan, and then we had a three week maintenance thing in Sasebo, Japan ( we did have to replace the barrel of the 5" 38 as it got wore out ). I am in Virginia, where did you go to school?
